Out of the seven species of the global marine turtles, five can be observed at Hambantota. These are considered as endangered species and turtle hatcheries for the conservation of these dwindling species is of paramount importance. Rekawa, Ussangoda, Ambalantota, Bundala and Yala are well known hatcheries where one can observe these amphibians in their protected habitat.
